You can’t kill a scoby!!

Your Kombucha, Jun or Vinegar Scoby will most likely survive the apocalypse!

They are almost un-killable

They will look weird from time to time.  Maybe have stringy bits on them, holes, darker areas, be uneven, get fat, become ‘ugly’ but they will always be alive.

You can leave it in a cupboard or in the fridge in a little liquid for a year and once you feed it, it would spring back to life again.

Even if somehow, it gets mouldy as a last resorted (not something to normally do) you can wash it and give it fresh food and usually it will be fine again.

Unless you pour boiling water on it, it’s almost always alive and kicking.

If you feel done with making Kombucha regularly then make vinegar instead, gift to friends, feed to the chickens or make a face-mask or face-creams from it but never throw your scoby out!
