How I passed kidney stones…

As some of you know I recently ended up having a few weeks of very intense, full body kidney stones attacks.  These kidney stones are made of oxalates, which came from decades of eating, lots of high oxalate ‘superfoods’ daily, like sweet potatoes, spinach smoothies, celery juices, beetroots, nuts and seeds (especially almonds, cashews, flax, and chia seeds – and all the things made with these) and, soya, cacao and beans, pulses and grains.  This was basically 99% of my diet!

After decades of eating this way, my body has started dumping what was stored a couple of years ago and this can range from a bit of extra grit in my eyes and on my teeth, to mass inflammation and kidney pain.  This all comes and goes in cycles – which is a good indication it’s oxalates.  Then recently my body started releasing the oxalate crystals as kidney stones.  The pain was so intense and ran from abdomen to chest and with vomiting too.

However, because I knew it was oxalates wanting to leave my body it somehow felt easier to address, as I knew why it was there.  So, as a lot of people have asked what I did, here it is (and this includes a big shout out to who was sooo helpful with this challenging time too)…

  • Made sure I had 50mg of oxalates a day (no less)
  • The juice of 4 lemons daily and a shot of apple cider vinegar daily (away from food)
  • 2000 – 2400mg of potassium citrate daily
  • Andrea Moritz kidney cleanse tea daily (away from food)
  • Drank plenty of water daily
  • A grew my own oxalobacter bacteria (which is a good bacteria that deals with oxalates for us, which most of us no longer have as antibiotic use etc wipes it out)
  • Berberis Vulgaris homeopathic remedy x3 daily
  • Milk thistle x1 nightly (to support the liver)
  • Chanca Piedra – I took this for a few days also, but in the end it upset my stomach too much

I know there is no way of telling if any of this helped, or if my body would have passed the stones anyway.  But I clearly had a lot of stones throughout the whole of my kidneys (hence the full body pain from the attacks) and now after scans there is nothing left.

The day I started taking the oxalobacter was the day the attacks stopped, and I started to feel stronger again.  This could be a complete coincidence, or it could be that I like many others I was depleted of this amazing, good bacteria).

Who knows, but I’m keeping going with this one for now and we’ll see what happens long term with the oxalating dumping.  I shall keep you all posted!
