How carbs are harming our health…
When we eat carbs (which includes high sugar fruits too) our body preferences this quick energy over the energy of fat. This means the body will use the carb and store the fat (often leading to weight gain even when eating ‘healthy’ foods).
When we use carbs as our primary energy source like this we are always searching for the next ‘hit’ because energy from carbs does not last very long. So, we are constantly hungry/snacking/adding in other things that might ‘bump us up’ again. This may be carbs, but can be caffeine, chocolate, scrolling or just about anything.
Carbs (all of them) spike the blood sugars and thus are unhelpful for our adrenals, nervous system, hormones, and many other things because of this. They make it very difficult to consistently balance to these areas because of this.
Carbs are highly addictive and can easily trigger other addictions when we are searching for the next ‘fix’ all the time. They give us a dopamine hit and some carbs also an opioid hit so we can easily feel unstable / not grounded mentally and physically when consuming them (especially true for our hormones).
I know we all feel we do better with carbs but that’s partially the addiction and partially because when you cut out the carbs, they need replacing with PLENTY of good fats and of course proteins. They then fuel our body and mind how nature intended and is how we easily thrive and repair.
Fats (as long as they are not seed oils) and proteins are NOT causing us inflammation; this is debunked (you can find the papers about this online) propaganda that the sugar industry were caught out telling everyone, so they could get people to eat more of their ‘foods’ instead. It’s the carbs and unnatural foods causing all the inflammation not our natural food source!
Many people have tried Keto and didn’t feel any better or even worse and the reason why is most Keto approaches are also not a natural way for us to eat because they are an oxalate sh@t-storm waiting to happen! It was never natural for us to eat hundreds of nuts and seeds every day in nut butters, milks and treats. Nuts and seeds in these quantities (all year around and not local) are always going to have an irritating/inflaming effect on the body, plus then there is the issues with all the oxalates in these foods (which can cause some really intense health issues for many).
Yes, we ate carbs many moons ago, but not daily, only usually in the summer season (which would have helped us fatten up for winter) and these carbs where no where near the same as the carbs we eat these days. They hadn’t been modified (like ALL carbs/fruit is now), they were no where near as sweet and where natural, local and seasonal too.
Carbs being consumed instead of larger amounts of fats and proteins is aging us all. Aches, pains, injuries, and inflammation that we would usually recover from easily is not happening and instead we all feel and looking old way before our time.
Our body can heal at a cellular level when fuelled by fats rather than carbs. People are completely recovering from (not just putting into remission) ‘incurable’ illnesses like autoimmunity, cancer, heart issues, mental health concerns, diabetes, dementia and so much more every day from removing carbs and drastically increasing fats and proteins.
You can have many benefits from just increasing fats and proteins in you diet (I did), however every time you add in some carbs your body will preference that as a fuel again and store the fat. This will start the carb addition again, increase weight and prevent your body from healing at a cellular level.
I highly recommend you give it a go, just for 4 weeks maybe. It won’t do you any harm, you’ll know you really have ‘tried everything’ and who knows, just maybe you’ll feel truly amazing, like those of us that also struggled so much with health and now no long do.
My recommendation is…
Remove all pasta, crackers, breads, cakes, potato (even sweet pots), flour, rice, quinoa, couscous, mango, papaya, pineapple, dried fruits etc and add in way more fats (not seed oils) and proteins with every meal. Think things like tallow, ghee, butter, basically any kind of animal fat, eggs, dairy, (maybe sheep and goat if cow is an issue), meat, oily fish, fish roe, seafood etc. If you veggie/vegan then consider beans and legumes (but not soya), coconut oil, avocado oil, or a very good quality olive oil (all other vegan fats, including dairy free margarines etc are HIGH in seeds oils which are incredibly inflaming for us).
Give it a go for 4 weeks, the first week or so will be hard as you work through the addiction but after that you will begin very quickly to see improvements across the board. Why? Because this is how nature intended us to fuel ourselves, so it’s how our body, mind, and nervous system most easily repair, fuel ourselves and thrive.
HERE is a great video about why we blame salt for what sugar did!
