In 2017 I started building a life that works for me, not me working for it!

I used to live in a big expensive house and city in Scotland and when my marriage broke up the previous year, I decided that rather than working just to continue living there I was going to create a different life.

Having recovered from CFS and a few other things I was not about to make myself ill again working to hold down all these status symbols of ‘success’ at the expense of health and happiness.

So, I sold everything I owned (that had taken me decades to collect) apart from 6 boxes of my past (which went into by Dad’s attic) and whatever else I could fit into a small transit van converted into a campervan.

My dog and I ‘set sail’ (or whatever the campervan equivalent is) with a grand idea of taking a couple of years to travel overland to Vietnam, where I would set up a retreat centre. We got as far as Portugal!

As well as being much closer to the UK and my family there, there was something free, rustic, traditional and more natural about central rural Portugal than I had experienced on any of my previous travels and that really caught my attention.

So, I traded the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh for the peace, slowness, real, simple, connected life of rural Portugal.

It’s been some of the hardest times of my life but also easily some of the most beautiful too.

I have lost and found myself many times over and I am sooo grateful for each and every moment of it as I’ve finally stopped searching for something to make me happy and found myself living a in tune with nature around and within me instead.

The deeper a nurture the nature within and connect with the nature around, the more magical, meaningful and whole my life feels.

I planned to build a life that worked for me rather than me for it and what i found was myself.

I guess that was what was missing all along!
