Spicy Orange Chutney Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg oranges
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 10 chilli’s, diced, with seeds
  • 2 inches of ginger, grated
  • 150g raisins
  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 450g brown sugar
  • 300ml apple cider vinegar
  • 50ml of fermented chilli sauce (optional)

Directions:

  1. Grate the orange skin and add this to a saucepan
  2. Peel the oranges and chop up oranges into small pieces and add to the same pan
  3. Add all of the other ingredients and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally to make sure all the sugar is dissolved
  4. There should not be much liquid left after this time.
  5. Put chutney into sterlised, hot jars and, clean around the top of the jar and put lid on tight.  Leave until it cools down and the lid should be sucked in.  If it is not then it’s not sealed properly so eat these one’s first and put in the fridge until finished.
  6. The rest will keep for a year or more in their jars on the shelf.
