Inflammation…

Inflammation is a biggy for so many people!  And when our body is inflamed it can cause bloating, swelling, puffiness, water retention, heaviness, intense pain, brain fog and so much more.

The thing is everyone tells you something different about what causes inflammation so it’s always hard to know what to do about it.  But, here’s some facts…

  • Inflammation is made worse by stress/nervous system dysregulation.
  • It’s also made much worse by poor circadian health (not connecting to nature in any way we can and being inside and in front of screens and under LED lights too much).
  • It’s made worse by many medications.
  • And by eating foods not natural for us to eat (and especially in large qualities).  For instance, things like nut/seed ‘butters’, nut ‘milks’ and raw cakes made of tons of nuts, seeds and high sugar fruits.  Yep, I know we all think these are helpful for us but they cause inflammation when we eat lots of these foods as they are not natural for us to eat in these qualities and all year around.
  • Eating a lot of foods that are not local and seasonal to us causes inflammation because our body does not have the microbiome to ‘deal’ with the same foods all year around and from other parts of the world as we are animals and are not meant to eat like this.
  • Seed oils cause HUGE amounts of inflammation, and they are in all junk foods, no matter if they are standard junk foods or veggie/vegan junk foods.  Vegan ‘butter’ for instance is pure seed oil.
  • Of course, you have the normal ‘culprits’ that are inflaming for many of us, like gluten, soya and dairy.  But also any carb at all it’s usually causing inflammation in our body as it’s not how we are ‘designed’ to eat and carbohydrates interfere with us fuelling ourselves in the most natural way and repairing at a cellular level (which is also why everyone is ageing so quickly these days).  For most people cutting all the carbs and adding back in lots of fats and proteins completely eliminated all inflammation.

And no, it’s not true that fats and proteins cause inflammation, this was completely made up (the papers have been released to prove this) by Big-Sugar to get people thinking what they were doing (pushing cereals, breads, pastas, cakes etc) was good and the good stuff (fats and proteins) was bad.  And it worked very well!

As I said at the beginning stress/nervous system dysregulation causes inflammation, so it’s important we try not to get stressed about what we are eating/not eating too.  And, this is easily done by eating in the most natural way possible.  Looking at what is local and seasonal to you and eating straight from the farmers where possible.  The more natural we are (food, thoughts, light, air, water etc) the more easily we let go of inflammation and thrive.
