The things I ate that destroyed my health…
My almost my whole life I have been fascinated with, in fear of and fixated on food. I became pescatarian at 9 years of age and then vegetarian, vegan, raw vegan and even considered breatharian at one point. I’d eating disorders in my teens and early 20’s and lied to myself later on telling myself ‘fasting’ was for my health, when really is was about my waist!
I have had a very unhealthy obsession with food and then for many years now a very healthy obsession with it. I have researched every dietary option I could find and experimented with many of them.
What I have come to realise is, it’s not about the next diet fad, but about eating (and living) in a way that is as close to ‘natural’ as possible. This way it’s easier to thrive as a human being. So, instead of focusing on a particular ‘diet’ and getting all caught up and stressed about that, just ask yourself… ‘is this how I would have naturally eaten/drunk/lived’?
These are the foods (in order) I know helped to destroy my health and what has taken several years now to undo the damage from. I share this as an example of things we would never have naturally eaten, especially every day of every season and shipped in from all over the World.
- Gluten
- Soya (of any kind, sauce, tofu, beans etc)
- Wheat
- Seed / Vegetable Oils (including diary-free margarines etc)
- Almonds (of any kind, including butter and flour)
- Sesame Seeds (including tahini)
- Juices of any kind but especially fruit juices and juices full of tons of celery, beets, spinach, & chard
- Grains
- A diet very high in carbohydrates (even the slow releasing one’s like sweet potatoes)
What’s in your diet that’s not natural for us to eat and can you let that go to see if it helps your body to thrive?
